1. Baking Soda Exfoliation Paste
The baking soda exfoliation paste is an effective method to gently remove dead skin cells that contribute to the appearance of age spots. By promoting skin cell turnover, this treatment helps fade discoloration and evens out your skin tone over time. The mild abrasive quality of baking soda facilitates physical exfoliation without being too harsh, making it suitable for most skin types when used properly.
To prepare this paste, combine one tablespoon of baking soda with approximately one teaspoon of water to form a smooth, spreadable paste. Apply the mixture to the darkened areas of your skin using circular motions for about 1 to 2 minutes. This gentle scrubbing helps dislodge dead cells and impurities that can dull your complexion.
After exfoliating, rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat your skin dry. Follow up with a moisturizer to restore hydration and protect the skin barrier. Use this treatment no more than two to three times per week to avoid disrupting your skin’s natural pH balance or causing irritation.
2. Baking Soda and Lemon Juice Mask
Lemon juice is rich in vitamin C, a potent antioxidant known for its skin-brightening properties. When combined with baking soda, it can enhance the fading of dark spots by inhibiting melanin production and promoting a more even complexion. However, lemon juice can cause irritation in sensitive skin and increases photosensitivity, so it should be used cautiously and only in the evening.
To create this mask, mix one tablespoon of baking soda with one teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice. For sensitive skin, adding a teaspoon of water can dilute the mixture and reduce potential irritation. Apply the mask directly to the pigmented areas and leave it on for about 10 minutes.
After the time has elapsed, rinse your skin with lukewarm water and gently pat dry. Since lemon juice increases your skin’s sensitivity to UV rays, it’s essential to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 the next day. Limit this treatment to twice a week and monitor your skin’s reaction closely.
