1. Baking Soda Treatment
Baking soda is a versatile and eco-friendly cleaner that can effectively remove the white patina caused by limescale and mineral deposits on glassware. Its mild abrasive properties help to lift and dissolve residues without scratching the surface.
To use this method, mix baking soda with a small amount of water to form a paste with a consistency similar to toothpaste. Apply the paste both inside and outside the glasses, ensuring all affected areas are covered.
Let the paste sit for about 10 minutes to allow the baking soda to break down the deposits. Then, gently scrub the glass with a soft sponge or cloth in circular motions to avoid scratching any protective coatings.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all baking soda residue.
- Dry the glasses with a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent new water spots or streaks from forming.
This treatment is particularly effective for glasses with moderate white film buildup and can be safely repeated as needed.
2. White Vinegar Wipe
White vinegar is a natural acid known for its ability to dissolve mineral deposits, making it an excellent choice for removing limescale from glass surfaces. It also has disinfecting and deodorizing properties, providing a thorough clean without harsh chemicals.
To apply, soak a soft cloth or gauze in white vinegar and gently wipe both the interior and exterior surfaces of the glasses. Allow the vinegar to work on the glass for about 1 to 2 minutes.
After wiping, rinse the glasses with water to remove any vinegar residue. Then, let them air dry or use a microfiber cloth to dry them completely.
- For stubborn white spots, repeat the process or soak the glasses briefly in a vinegar-water solution (equal parts) before wiping.
- Avoid prolonged soaking in pure vinegar to prevent any damage to delicate glassware or coatings.
This method is ideal for glasses with light to moderate white patina and is safe for regular use.
