1. Preparing the natural fertilizer
A key to extending your peace lily’s blooming period is using a natural fertilizer made from tapioca flour. Tapioca flour, derived from cassava roots, contains essential minerals like magnesium, potassium, calcium, and iron, which support the plant’s metabolic functions and encourage continuous flowering.
To prepare the fertilizer, combine one tablespoon of tapioca flour with 400 ml of water. Stir the mixture thoroughly until it forms a smooth, lump-free liquid. Straining the solution helps remove any remaining clumps that could clog watering tools or interfere with soil absorption.
Apply this fertilizer by pouring it evenly into the soil around your peace lily’s base. The roots will absorb these nutrients gradually, promoting healthy growth and repeated blooming cycles over the years.
2. Proper watering schedule
Maintaining an optimal watering routine is critical for the peace lily’s health and long-term blooming. These plants prefer consistently moist soil but can suffer if overwatered, which may lead to root rot. Watering two to three times a week is generally suitable, but frequency should be adjusted based on ambient temperature and humidity.
Use lukewarm water and pour it evenly into the soil, avoiding the leaves to prevent fungal issues. Ensuring the pot has proper drainage will prevent excess water from pooling around the roots.
Additionally, placing your peace lily in a cooler spot away from direct sunlight helps preserve moisture levels and reduces stress on the plant, further supporting its vitality and flower production.
