2. Prepare cleaning solution
Effective mildew removal starts with the right cleaning solution. A widely recommended homemade mixture combines white vinegar, baking soda, and warm water. Vinegar acts as a natural disinfectant with mild acidity that breaks down mold spores. Baking soda provides a gentle abrasive action that helps lift mildew stains without damaging silicone. Warm water helps activate these ingredients and facilitates even application.
To prepare the solution, mix three parts white vinegar with one part warm water, then add two tablespoons of baking soda per cup of the mixture. Pour everything into a spray bottle and shake gently; a slight fizzing is normal, indicating the reaction between vinegar and baking soda. Avoid mixing this solution with bleach or other harsh chemicals, as it can produce harmful fumes.
